Connectivity

WiFi technology is having an increasing role in control, commissioning, diagnostics and service of Temperzone and Hitachi air conditioning units for both consumers and contractors.

The latest WiFi offerings from Temperzone include the trade focused, WiFi Service Utility (WSU) for all Temperzone equipment with UC6, UC7 and UC8 control boards, and the consumer focused Hi-Kumo WiFi and internet control for Hitachi Wall Splits.

Temperzone WiFi Service Utility

The WSU is a Temperzone developed device that allows installers and service technicians to view the operating data of Temperzone’s electronic controls using an inbuilt WiFi connection and the web browser on a tablet or smart phone.

The WSU plugs directly into the UC board and allows the user to view a range of operational parameters in real time. A running history can also be retrieved.

The screen below gives an idea of the information detail that is available using a WSU.

The WSU is ideal for contractors to use at commissioning to ensure the unit is operating within design parameters. A series of screen captures can be used to document operational conditions at completion of commissioning for future reference.

The WSU is also ideal for service technicians who can quickly attach it to a faulty air conditioning unit and easily identify the operational conditions related to the fault. It can also be used to ensure that remedial action taken has returned the unit to correct operation.

One of the really valuable features of the WSU is that it allows you to take control of the UC6, 7, 8 driven unit, bypassing any connected thermostat or BMS. Once you are in "Control Mode", you can increase and decrease fan speed, compressor capacity etc. This feature is extremely useful in both comissioning and service / diagnostic applications. The screen shot below shows the WSU in "Control Mode".

The WSU uses a web browser based interface, which makes it completely compatible with browsers available on Apple, Android or Windows devices.

Hitachi Hi-Kumo WiFi Wall Split Controller

Hi-Kumo is a totally different use of WiFi, available as an optional extra with the new E and S ranges of Hitachi R32 Wall Splits, all of which will be released later this year.

Hi-Kumo is a consumer focussed WiFi and internet control system which runs from a purpose built iOS or Android app on a smartphone or tablet. It allows complete control of the Wall Split unit from inside the building or anywhere with internet connectivity. The following video provides an overview of Hi-Kumo functionality.
