Temperzone News spoke to Grant Richardson, General Manager of AC-TEC Services about a recently completed project where both the Efficiency and Flexibility of Temperzone's OPA-ECO solve a customers dilemma.

Case Study #1

Contracting company AC-TEC Services was asked to provide an air conditioning solution for a large office, services and retail complex in Southeast Queensland.

At the time, the building was air conditioned via multiple rooftop package units that were nearing the end of their service life. Due to several configuration changes that had taken place over the building’s lifetime, conditioned air was also being delivered via a less-than-ideal ducting system.

The Problem

With the lease of the complex’s largest tenant due to expire, building management were advised that they were considering a move to a more energy efficient office space. They felt the cost of moving would easily be offset by the reduced running costs offered elsewhere. However, the tenant indicated they would consider a new lease if building efficiency could be improved.

The situation facing the building owner was clear: satisfy his tenant’s efficiency requirements or lose them - a situation that would lead to a significant loss of rental income while a new tenant was found.

The Solution

AC-TEC quickly solved the problem with a single solution - a Temperzone OPA-465KTBG-P-ECO rooftop package unit. Grant Richardson, General Manager of AC-TEC Services, says that the ECO-OPA system was chosen due to three key factors.

“Firstly, the fully digital system, including plug fans, digital scroll compressors, EEV and unit controller, provides exceptional refrigeration flexibility,” he says. “This translates to very high efficiency across the load spectrum.

Satisfied Customers

A Temperzone OPA-ECO unit was subsequently fitted to replace the older unit supplying the tenant, with the resulting efficiency improvement motivating them to promptly renew their lease.

Having therefore generated savings for tenant and building owner, the choice of a premium OPA-ECO unit proved to be the ideal solution. And with the commissioning process taking a quarter of the time required for a typical rooftop unit, the contractor also saved money.

Similarly impressed with the unit’s flexibility in terms of future building reconfiguration, the owner also now intends to use ECO-OPA for an entire air conditioning refit.

A Process Made Simple

As well as being highly efficient, OPA-ECO units are also very easy to install and commission. The process is made even more efficient by Temperzone-trained support and commissioning technicians who attend the site to start the ECO machines and provide on-site contractor training for the new technologies.
